Seeing is Everything

My relationship with ZEISS began with photography.

It grew through my experience with camera lenses.

And eventually, it expanded into something I never expected:

Vision.

Today, I have the unique opportunity to experience ZEISS from two perspectives—as a photographer using ZEISS optics to capture the world and as an individual using ZEISS eyewear to experience it.

For me, these aren't two separate relationships.

They're two sides of the same idea:

Seeing.

My ZEISS Journey

From Camera Lenses to Vision

My relationship with ZEISS Camera Lenses began in 2019.

As a photographer, I've always been fascinated by optics and the role a lens plays in translating what we see into an image.

Sharpness. Contrast. Color. Detail. Rendering.

The way a lens responds to light.

These characteristics can influence not only the technical quality of a photograph, but the way an image feels.

Working with ZEISS allowed me to explore those ideas through my own photography and share the experience with other photographers.

But the relationship eventually took me in another direction.

I started thinking about the lens I use every day.

My eyes.

Two Sides of Seeing

See the image.

The camera lens is the connection between the world in front of me and the photograph I create.

My work with ZEISS Photo gives me the opportunity to explore that connection through photography, lens experiences, reviews, education and real-world projects.

From street photography and cityscapes to architecture, landscapes and travel, I use ZEISS optics as part of my ongoing exploration of how lenses influence the photographic process.

The camera captures what I see.

But first, I have to see it.

The other side of my relationship with ZEISS is much more personal.

As photographers, we spend countless hours behind cameras and in front of computer screens.

We think about camera lenses.

We think about sensors.

We think about color.

We think about image quality.

But how often do we think about the lenses in front of our eyes?

My experience with ZEISS Vision has encouraged me to think differently about my own visual needs and the importance of taking care of my vision.

It has also given me the opportunity to share what I've learned with other photographers and creatives.

Photography, Video & Vision

My creative work extends beyond photography.

I also work in video production, camera operation and live production.

That means my visual environment can change dramatically throughout a single day.

I might spend hours photographing in the field, move into a video production, operate a camera during a live event, and later spend hours editing photographs or video on a computer.

Through all of those experiences, my vision remains part of the creative process.

Photography taught me to recognize a moment.

Video taught me to anticipate one.

Vision allows me to experience both.

Why Photographers Should Care About Their Vision

Photography is fundamentally about seeing.

We search for light.

We study details.

We analyze composition.

We look for moments.

We spend hours editing images on digital displays.

Yet it's easy to overlook the most important tool involved in the entire process:

our eyes.

My ZEISS Vision journey encouraged me to become more intentional about my own vision and to learn more about the eyewear solutions available to me.

I'm not an optometrist or ophthalmologist, and I don't prescribe eyewear.

I'm a photographer sharing my personal experience.

My hope is that other photographers and creatives will become more aware of their vision, have regular conversations with qualified eye-care professionals and take their visual needs seriously.
